TheWheel® - Unique selling points

TheWheel® has several key characteristics which enables perfect direct- drive suitability. Although applied in some applications and still being further developed, TheWheel® is the only product that performs sufficiently to produce what is needed, torque for your application at a very high efficiency.

 

DC power to the road: 86% efficiency

As also noted on the Introduction page, TheWheel itself is extremely energy efficient. Combined with the application (at the wheel of the vehicle) the efficiency further increases, optimizing the whole vehicle efficiency. In the future, e-Traction will invest in even higher system efficiency.

 

Torque

In-wheel direct- drive motors cannot 'gear down' to generate more torque. TheWheel® incorporates special motor technology to overcome this problem. The result: comparable torque to normal traction systems... at a much higher efficiency!

 

Integration of power electonics

An advantage for the customer is extremely simple installation of TheWheel®. DC lines and a CAN-bus cable for motor control are the only required cables for operation of the motor. Integration of power electronics in the motor also results in elimination of electronic interference in your vehicle.

 

Fluid cooled motor and electronics

TheWheel® is water cooled throughout cooling both the power electronics and motor. The result: higher continuous power output. TheWheel SM500/2.6 for example, is capable of 180kW continuous power output.

 

Reliability

The only moving parts in TheWheel® are ball bearings. The rest of TheWheel is static and has a lifetime that exceeds a conventional driveline numerous times (Make the comparison with conventional drivelines: Motor > torque converter > transmission > shaft(s) > differential > axle and TheWheel: Batteries > cable > motor)
