TheWheel™ - Unique selling points
TheWheel™ has several key characteristics which enables perfect direct-drive suitability. Although applied in some applications and still being further developed, TheWheel™ is the only product that performs sufficiently to produce what is needed, torque for your application.
Key characteristics
TheWheel™ has the amount of torque your application really needs.
With a hub size of 450mm and length of 250mm with a max torque of 400Nm enables this application to be used in the automotive industry. With a rim size of 500mm and 345mm in length a torque of 2625Nm is achieved, enabling this to be used in small freight applications. By adding 210 mm to the length of the motor a torque of 7500Nm is achieved, enabling this to be used in large freight and city bus application. Finally, for industrial applications, e-Traction produces motors with a peak torque of 15,000Nm
TheWheel™ is the only ever developed wheel motor with integrated power electronics.
An advantage for the customer is that extremely simple installation of TheWheel™ is facilitated. DC lines and a CAN-bus cable for motor control are the only required cables for operation of the motor. Also, we simply eliminate electronic interference of the motor in your vehicle.
Efficiency of TheWheel™ is exceptionally high.
As also noted on the Introduction page, TheWheel itself is extremely energy efficient. Combined with the application (at the wheel of the vehicle) the efficiency further increases, optimizing the whole vehicle efficiency.
Water cooling is integrated throughout the design of TheWheel™.
Moist tropical situations, hot desert circumstances and other critical applications cannot function without proper cooling. TheWheel is water cooled throughout cooling both the power electronics and motor.
Durability, reliability taken to the extreme.
The only moving parts in TheWheel are ball bearings. The rest of TheWheel is static and has a lifetime that exceeds a conventional driveline numerous times (Make the comparison with conventional drivelines: Motor > torque converter > transmission > shaft(s) > differential > axle and TheWheel: Batteries > cable > motor)
