TheWheel™: applications and possibilities
Inner city public transportation
Using the e-Traction system combined with TheWheel™ in city environments will easily give the maximum benefit for several reasons:
In city areas the driving cycle of transportation is very diverse. High torque is needed for quick acceleration, driving time is often short and more importantly frequent braking is involved due to traffic congestion and traffic lights. The fuel economy of conventional vehicles is very low especially when the vehicle weight is high.
Pollution is a very critical factor in densely populated areas. It is clear that vehicles now do have to meet even more stringent pollution restrictions. It is certain that in the near future parts of cities will be closed off completely to vehicles to serve public interest on air quality.
e-Traction continuously creates products that are environmentally friendly and city transportation is one of our core capabilities. A good example is our Whisper™`city bus which has a GPS controlled diesel generator for area dependent driving and the battery system enables driving without the generator for an extended time, keeping the city environment absolutely clean and emission free.
